Description

PhD position on phages in the human gut
The team of Eugen Pfeifer at the Micalis Institute (INRAE) in Jouy-en-Josas is looking for a
motivated PhD student to work on a project studying phages in the human gut. The thesis
will focus on the characterization of the human gut virome using state-of-the-art
metagenomics with a particular focus on the impact of diet and health. During the PhD, the
student will gain deep insights and valuable skills into molecular biology and computational
data analysis.

Profile and requirements
We're looking for a candidate who possesses a genuine passion for the captivating field of
the biology of phages. This role requires expertise in molecular phage biology and active
involvement in data analysis using bioinformatics (deep knowledge will be acquired over
time). Conversely, a strong background in computational analysis with a deep interest in
molecular phage biology is also a perfectly fitting combination. Expertise in next-generation
sequencing would be a considerable advantage. Equally essential will be your role in cosupervising
bachelor's or master's students.

Environment
The PhD will be done in the prestigious Micalis Institute in Jouy-en-Josas (between Versailles
and Massy, near Paris). The group maintains a strong association with the international
phage research team of Marie-Agnes Petit (https://shorturl.at/loqRW), fostering a
collaborative and welcoming environment. Additionally, the project will involve substantial
collaboration with colleagues from the MetaGenoPolis Institute, located on the same
campus.

Starting and supervising conditions
The position will start as soon as a suitable candidate is identified (starting date is January
2024 at the latest). The supervision will be done together with Marie-Agnes Petit.
