From the source to the user end: deciphering the impact of microbiome and water parameters on opportunistic waterborne pathogens

A 24-month postdoctoral position is available in the “Biology of Intracelullar Bacteria” group led by Carmen Buchrieser at “Institut Pasteur” in Paris (https://research.pasteur.fr/en/team/biology-of-intracellular-bacteria/).The position is part of the MicroPathWater project, funded by ANR (2023-2027), involving three French partners with expertise in genomics, metagenomics, amoeba-bacteria interaction, and drinking water systems. The postdoc will work under the supervision of Laura Gomez (main coordinator of the ANR project) and Carmen Buchrieser (head of the lab). The project aims to conduct a detailed characterization of the distribution of opportunistic waterborne pathogens in drinking water systems and to decipher the factors (biotic and abiotic) that could be crucial for their control.

Qualifications

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to analyze the drinking water microbiome through amplicon metagenomics, shotgun metagenomics, and comparative genomics. Candidates should have experience in metagenomics and genomics studies, particularly in related bioinformatic analyses. Additional scientific skills should include standard basic molecular biology techniques. Proficiency in speaking and writing English is required, and knowledge of French is advantageous but not mandatory. High motivation and ability to work collaboratively in a team and with other teams are essential.
