Description

M2 internship in Genetic Epidemiology

Description

A M2 internship is available at Inserm UMR1167 unit – Risk factors and molecular determinants of aging-related diseases. The trainee will work in Team 3, led by Jean-Charles Lambert, under the supervision of Céline Bellenguez. This multidisciplinary team is a world leader in the genetic epidemiology of Alzheimer’s disease (AD).

AD is complex and results from the interaction between genetic and environmental factors: in addition to 12 modifiable risk factors, more than 80 genetic loci are associated with AD risk. Deciphering the substantial genetic component of AD, including its genetic heterogeneity, is necessary to better understand the biological mechanisms underlying the disease and to develop efficient precision medicine. Yet, little is known about the impact of gene-gene and gene-environment interactions on AD risk.

The objective of the internship will be to investigate the genetic component of AD by conducting genome-wide association studies (GWAS), including interaction studies, in large datasets of AD cases and controls with genotyping data, including the French EADI dataset (2,400 AD cases and 6,300 controls) and the European EADB dataset (20,000 AD cases and 20,000 controls).
