Chercheur.e postdoctorant.e – Inférence causale pour l’analyse des
impacts des produits phytopharmaceutiques sur la biodiversité

Nous recherchons un.e chercheur.e postodoctorant.e avec de solides compétences en méthodes statistiques d’inférence causale, dans le cadre du projet PPBiodiv 2 (financement ANSES), visant à détecter des changements de biodiversité à les attribuer, notamment aux effets des produits phytopharmaceutiques (PPP) dans les populations d’oiseaux et de chauves-souris. Ce projet vise à mettre en œuvre des méthodes statistiques d’attribution et d’inférence causale reliant les données de ventes de pesticides en France aux données de biodiversité issues de suivis participatifs (Vigie-nature) pour extraire les effets spécifiques des substances actives sur la biodiversité,  tout en contrôlant d’éventuels facteurs confondants tels que des effets de l’habitat ou d’autres pratiques agricoles.

Activités :
-    Analyses statistiques pour la détection et l’attribution : tous types de modèles d’inférence causale (par ex. Statistical matching, Convergent Cross Mapping…)
-    Manipulation de jeux de données volumineux (oiseaux et chiroptères pour la biodiversité ; pesticides, climat, sols, paysage, pratiques agricoles pour l’environnement)
-    Soutien à la coordination du groupe de chercheurs travaillant sur la problématique (organisation de réunions d’échanges notamment)
-    Rédaction d’articles scientifiques et de rapports d’étude

Compétences requises
-    Excellente maîtrise des outils statistiques pour l’analyse des données spatio-temporelles, et notamment en méthodes d’attribution statistique.
-    Des compétences ou intérêts en écologie, Systèmes d’Information Géographique ou effets des produits phytopharmaceutiques seraient un plus, mais ne sont pas obligatoires.
-    Excellentes capacités de communication scientifique.
-    Bonnes capacités rédactionnelles
-    Bonnes capacités relationnelles

Contrat ou niveau d’emploi: Deux ans ; Salaire annuel net : entre 27 et 35 k€ selon expérience

Postdoctoral researcher - Causal inference for analyzing the impact of plant protection products on biodiversity

We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher with strong skills in statistical methods of causal inference, as part of the PPBiodiv 2 project (ANSES funding), aimed at detecting and attributing changes in biodiversity, in particular to the effects of plant protection products (PPPs) in bird and bat populations. This project aims to implement statistical attribution and causal inference methods linking pesticide sales data in France to biodiversity data from participatory monitoring (Vigie-nature) to extract the specific effects of active substances on biodiversity, while controlling for possible confounding factors such as habitat effects or other agricultural practices.

Activities :
- Statistical analyses for detection and attribution: any types of causal inference models (e.g. Statistical matching, Convergent Cross Mapping...)
- Handling of large datasets (birds and chiropterans for biodiversity; pesticides, climate, soils, landscape, agricultural practices for the environment).
- Support for the coordination of the group of researchers working on the issue  (organization of exchange meetings in particular)
- Write scientific articles and study reports.

Skills required
- Excellent command of statistical tools for the analysis of spatio-temporal data, and in particular of statistical attribution methods.
- Skills or interests in ecology, Geographic Information Systems or the effects of phytopharmaceutical products would be a plus, but are not mandatory.
- Excellent scientific communication skills
- Good writing skills
- Good interpersonal skills

Contract or job level: Two years; Net annual salary: between 27 and 35k€ depending on experience
