Description

Laboratory: Bioinformatics and Proteomics Laboratory (ADLab). The lab specializes in developing advanced computational methods and artificial intelligence and statistical approaches for analyzing large-scale data. ADLab collaborates with academic and industrial partners worldwide and has access to high-performance computing infrastructures.

Institution: Faculty of Medicine, Université Laval, Quebec, Canada

Job Description:

Prof. Arnaud Droit’s laboratory (ADLab) is seeking a student in computational biology to work on proteomics data analysis using next-generation mass spectrometers. This research is part of the fight against antibiotic resistance, a major public health threat. This issue arises from the overuse of antibiotics, which promotes the emergence of resistant bacteria, making many infections difficult to treat. Developing new approaches to detect and counteract these resistances is essential. The selected candidate will contribute to developing computational tools for proteomics data analysis and validation, as well as applying machine learning methods to identify diagnostic biomarkers in biological fluids (bacteria detection, treatment resistance, etc.).

Responsibilities:
• Develop tools for proteomics data analysis.
• Design and improve algorithms for validating mass spectrometry signals.
• Apply machine learning approaches to identify biomarkers.
• Collaborate with experts in bioinformatics, biology, and proteomics.
• Participate in writing scientific publications and presenting results at conferences.

Required Profile:
• Background in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or a related field.
• Experience in programming (R, Python).
• Knowledge of machine learning and biological data processing.
• Interest in large-scale data analysis in proteomics.
• Autonomy, scientific rigor, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Assets:
• Experience with proteomics data processing software.
• Knowledge of proteomics and/or mass spectrometry.
